Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
The seventh chakra, at the crown of the head — connection, unity, quiet. Element: thought/consciousness.
Sahasrara means 'thousand-petaled'. Depicted as a lotus at the crown of the head, it is the final chakra — less an energy center with a location than the state the whole system points toward: connection, unity, and the quiet that remains when effort stops. Its color is violet or white, and its sound is silence, or Om — the seed from which the others are said to unfold.
Practice-wise there is little to 'do' for Sahasrara, which is itself the teaching: headstand is its traditional pose, but Savasana and meditation are its true territory. Teachers close class here on purpose — the whole arc of a practice, from root grounding to crown quiet, mirrors the chakra system's map of a human being settling into wholeness.
In practice
- Savasana is crown practice: nothing to achieve, nowhere to go — the pose students most often skip and most need.
- Traditional color: violet or white. Sound: silence, or Om.
- Headstand is its classical asana; it is advanced, taught in person, and optional forever.
